Technical processes when reading and choosing a language on kle-was.de.
Page requests
kle-was.de provides static information pages. When a page is requested, the web server receives connection data necessary to serve it, including the IP address. Access logs and retention depend on the hosting provider and its configuration. Questions about this policy can be sent to christian@kle-was.de.
Images, scripts and search
The supplied files contain no analytics tools, advertising pixels or embedded videos. Images and scripts are served by the same web server; fonts come from the device system. Article search runs in the browser. Search terms are included in the page address so a search can be reopened; when that address is shared or reloaded, terms may also form part of the transmitted link and server logs.
Country-based language selection
Opening the neutral home address without a saved language choice requests https://ipwho.is/?fields=success,country_code. The third party necessarily receives the IP address and returns a country code. Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein select German; other countries select English. Errors or a five-second timeout fall back to English. This website code does not store the country result. Direct links to German or English pages do not trigger that lookup.
Manual choice
A manually selected language is stored in browser local storage under klewas-language and takes priority over the country lookup. Clearing this site’s browser data removes the setting. The website does not use a server-side login for it.
Email and linked websites
Clicking the email address opens your configured email application. Your information is transmitted through your chosen email service only when you send the message. Source and licence links lead to external websites with their own privacy information. The country lookup is also subject to IPWHOIS privacy information.
